Horseback Riding
A Horseback riding lover’s dream! We offer unlimited riding to all our guests. There is no better way to explore this land, see wildlife and enjoy the great outdoors than to be on horseback at the Blacktail Ranch. We can accommodate a wide variety of riding abilities from beginners needing basic instruction in the meadows near the lodge to experts in search of adventure on our daylong treks up into the mountains. Our horses are professionally western trained, surefooted and mountain savvy. Our local guides know these trails like the back of their hands.

Native Crafts
Closer to home, we offer native craft making in our Craft Tee Pee in the meadow across from the lodge. Come and bead a necklace, make a mask, paint, work with leather and a whole lot more in our authentic western Teepee. Our creative staff and supplies are available to all our guests. We encourage you to become inspired by the land and its beauty, creating a keepsake to take with you as a reminder of your great vacation at the Blacktail. Please feel free to bring your own materials for painting/drawing as we also provide transportation into the mountains for the more creative individuals who would prefer a day of sketching and creating in nature.

Mountain Bike Riding, Trail Running and Hiking
Blacktail has hundreds of miles of dirt roads that wind through the 8,000 acre ranch. Our trails range in skill level from beginner to experts in search of a thrill. Blacktail will provide you with a map of marked trails surrounding the main lodge area for your easy enjoyment. For more serious outings we will provide you with a topographical map, compass, first aid kit and lunch with extra snacks for an all day adventure. Cave Exploration and Historic Tours
The Blacktail is rich in archeological sites including an extensive cave system dating back to the Ice Age. Our skilled staff will take you on an amazing tour into the depths of our cave where you will see artifacts and evidence of human existence from as far back as the last Ice Age. Feel the cool air deep below the earth surface and imagine what it was like to have lived in these dwellings. Above ground the Blacktail is rich in Native American History. Take a Historic Tour of the land and stand in a Medicine and Sun Wheel created by our native peoples so long ago. There are numerous tipi rings from more recent times rich in artifacts. End you tour at the Ranch’s museum and enjoy our display of hundreds of artifacts taken from the cave and surrounding lands.

Swimming in the Creek and Panning for Artifacts
Fun in the sun! Let the day slip by in the shade of the aspens along our fresh water creek. Let the sound of the water lull you into a perfect afternoon nap or try your hand at fishing. The kids will enjoy panning for artifacts along the edges. The Blacktail is so rich in native history; you are bound to find a treasure!
