Anne and I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We thought we knew beauty but Montana and the people of the Blacktail Ranch give new meaning to beauty. The ranch is striking in its majesty as you drive from the plains into the mountains. Going on the Continental Divide Ride completes the magic of being at Blacktail. Under the wonderful care of Ian and Sandra, Anne and I saw the Continental Divide from a very different perspective....on horseback. It is the perfect way to feel part of the land and of the history that made it. The day is made perfect when we returned to the cabin nestled in the foothills next to an ice cold stream. Great food and special friends capped off our wonderful trip. Virginia is our home but we know we have a second home at the Blacktail Ranch.

Our adventure starts in the valley and heads up through our 8,000-acre ranch to the top of the Continental Divide. We ride in the footsteps of the explorers Louis and Clarke taking in some of the same breathtaking views they saw over 100 years ago. This adventure requires experienced riders only. We will spend 6-8 hours in the saddle each day exploring the wilderness as we wind our way up to the divide. At night, we will set up camp in the beauty of the mountains. Each guest has the opportunity to groom, feed and water their horses at day’s end before they will be set out in our “mountain coral” for the evening. Our ranch hands will light a fire for the guests to kick back and relax as they prepare the dinner. The Blacktail insists on the highest standard of care for every guest. Our kitchen provides us with the best camp food that can be eaten out on the trails
